Understanding the Roofing Process

At Vidmar Roofing, we believe that there is an appropriate roofing system for each individual project. Our philosophy is to install the best possible roof in every situation. In selecting the right system, we consider structural design, aesthetics, budget, and serviceability.

Our procedure works in six simple steps.

First, we establish what type of roofing system you require. Our free roofing estimate will help you determine if your existing roof neccesitates a complete tear-off or, if conditions permit, the existing base can be re-roofed. Our trained professionals will evaluate and analyze your current roof, and provide you with an honest estimate.

Second, once work begins, any old materials are safely discarded into dump trucks to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience or mess. We will remove trucks from job site daily.

Third, we install an Ice and Water Shield. Roof damage can occur from many sources, including ice, storms and strong winds. Water can easily get underneath and penetrate unprotected roof decks and cause leaks in crucial areas such as valleys, skylights or roof protrusions. The long lasting effects of water damage can cost thousands of dollars to repair. To prevent this problem, we use Ice & Water Shield on these critical areas to prevent those hard to correct leak problems from occurring, and extend the life of your roof.

Fourth, once the Ice and Water Shield has been installed, we install a high quality 15lb felt underlayment which will lay flatter then heavier felt underlayment.

Next, we are ready to install the shingles. When choosing a shingle, it’s important to take into account the style, size, and location of your home, and, of course, your personal preferences. We have years of experience installing various types of asphalt shingles, cedar shakes and cedar shingles. View the color selection here.

Finally, it is extremely important to assess roofs for proper ventilation. Poor ventilation can cause problems such as peeling interior paint, ceiling stains, or even mold and mildew. A good ventilation system is balanced, with intake (usually under the eaves) and exhaust (usually on or near peak of the roof) vents working together to get stale air out and fresh air in. Ridge vents, which are covered with shingles, are hardly noticeable and add superior performance and beauty to your home.
